On the Passive Anti-Zionist
08.02.2026
Leftist activists in Israel (i.e. — Occupied Palestine) are aware of the many difficulties prohibiting the resistance to the occupied state: social outcasting, limited groups where one could share their opposition, legal consequences, jailing, and more.
Many members of the public opt for the comfortable position of Liberal Zionism, where one generally opposes the injustice of the Israeli occupation without deconstructing the underlying forces or offering proper solutions (and ultimately putting the majority of the blame and responsibility on the Palestinians).
This group of people has often been talked about in recent years. What I want to discuss instead is a different breed of non-action: The Passive, Self-Sustaining Anti-Zionist.
The rise of intensity in the Gazan Genocide ("The October 7th War") has opened the eyes of some liberal voices in the country, and the 13-day front with Iran has stressed these same people further into (finally) realizing that Israel will never, ever decide on its own to advance towards peace.
While this group has developed anti-Zionist mindsets, it has done very little in actively fighting according to their views and making some kind of change, as small as it may be.
They haven't attended any protests (Liberal or Palestinian-organized), they've created no art or written no think pieces.
No donations were made to any causes.
Their feet haven't touched the land of the West Bank and no Arabic has left their mouth.
The most that they've done is go to radical-leftists shows or educate themselves on the history of the occupation in their city.
And finally, as the worst sin of all, they choose to run away to Europe before even attempting to participate in activism of all kind s.
One could argue they have their reasons: some are other kinds of minorities who are next on the chopping block, others are deep in debt and varying stressful financial situations, and you could even say that "this kind of leftist infighting would only hurt the cause".
I argue otherwise, that their total inability to even attempt to use their Israeli privilege is absolutely disgusting and shameful.
My heart is completely empty of any remorse I could have for them.
I would even claim that their need to flee to the warm, welcoming hands of Israel's biggest supporters (Germany, the US, and the like) only when the dooming reality of the self-destructive policies of the Israeli state start affecting them, is the biggest stone they could put under the wheels of the revolution.
Their taxes will still go towards supporting the Jewish Ethnostate, while their consciousness will be cleansed by them supposedly "decolonizing the land".
I do not argue that I'm the best and most consistent activist here, it won't be true:
There are many individuals here who've put their everything into the case.
But I fail to understand how purely developing a radical opinion is better than the common liberal: how can one oppose the state in private spaces only?
There's much you can do while keeping yourself safe from institutionalized harm.
Staying quiet while having some resources, some privilege, is a choice.
I agonizingly call my fellow adversaries:
Draw, write, yell.
Paint a sign, publish zines, disturb public peace.
Make your presence known. Don't just glare in the shadows.
Do anything before you run away. Please.

I've wrote this short piece from a deeply personal place, through seeing how my sense of empathy is not shared w others around me.
I don't blame you if you can't always fight for your fellow men.
That being said, if you're a local reading this, and you don't understand why it's your responsibility to do something, then I hate you deeply.
All of this is done in your name whether you like it or not, even if you didn't choose to be born here.
Stand up against the horrors for once in your life.
